General note. Maybe not all problems have correct questions. Some questions (maybe the main question of the problem, maybe one of the subquestions) may make no real sense. In this case you have to write in your answer (in English or Russian): «impossible situation – ситуация невозможна». Of course, this answer has to be explained numerically or logically.
Data from the tables (Planetary data, stars, constants, etc.) may be used for solving every problem.
The answers «Да-Yes» or «Нет-No» have to be written in English or Russian.
Do not forget that in clean copy you should write solutions only on even (left) pages. The odd (right) pages will be used by your team leader to translate solutions into English and also to emphasize your thoughts in solutions.

Theoretical round. Sketches for solutions
Note. The given sketches are not full; the team leaders have to give more detailed explanations to students. But the correct solutions in the students’ papers (enough for 8 pts) may be shorter.
Note. Jury members should evaluate the student’s solutions in essence, and not by looking on formal existence the mentioned sentences or formulae. The formal presence of the mentioned positions in the text is not necessary to give the respective points. Points should be done if the following steps de facto using these positions.
Theoretical round. Basic criteria. For work of Jury
Note. Jury members should elaborate more detailed criteria, and also create criteria for other correct ways of the student’s solutions.
Source limitations
The original PDF and its embedded scans clip the opening text on solution pages 2, 4 and 6. Ellipses mark these unrecoverable passages; complete surviving derivations, answers and grading rows are retained. The double-star solution refers to a figure that is absent from the supplied packet.
Printed discrepancies
The answer key uses 1.34ᵐ for α Centauri B while its data table gives 1.33ᵐ. The summit key invokes brown dwarfs despite the stated A–M main-sequence restriction, and calls an isosceles triangle equilateral. Its printed sin β/2 expressions are preserved. The mirror key says losing K% on transmission despite the statement saying transmitting K%. The eclipse key prints V₃ = V₂ − V_E and L_NS for the along-track width, while nearby prose uses Vφ and L_WE; these are not silently changed. The printed β-2 grading allocations and subtotals are retained.
Условие
An imaging observation of Messier object M51, consisted of galaxy NGC 5194 (, ) and its companion NGC 5195, was made by the 1-m telescope of Weihai Observatory (WHO), on December 25, 2014. The V-band image is shown in Fig.α5. (see separate sheet), the bounding box marks the field of view of the image taken by the telescope (with focal length of 8 meters) and the PI CCD (2048 × 2048, pixel size 13.5 μm × 13.5 μm).

5.1.
Find the Beijing time (UTC+08, write the answer in 24h format: hh:mm) of the upper culmination of NGC 5194 in Weihai Observatory on the observing date, in form of «».
5.2.
Estimate the angular size (diameter) of NGC 5194 (in units of arc minutes, write the answer in form of «»).
5.3.
If the physical size of NGC 5194 is known as about half the size of the Milky Way Galaxy, estimate the distance to M51 (in units of Mpc, write the answer in form of «»).
5.4.
Which is the morphological type of NGC 5194 (“elliptical”, “spiral”, “barred spiral”, “irregular”)? Write the answer in English in form of «Type = ...».

5.1. Method of solution 1, without explanations
Answer: 07:15.
5.1. Method of solution 2, with explanations
The upper culmination of a celestial body occurs when its sidereal time equals to its right ascension. It is ≈ 13ʰ30ᵐ for NGC 5194. Sidereal time is equal to mean solar time at the date of autumnal equinox, and then begins to outstrip it with speed 1ᵈ/365.2422 per day (about 3ᵐ56ˢ per day).
Note. Strictly speaking, the sidereal time is equal to mean solar time about two days earlier, but we are not going to account for this subtle effect.
93 days passed since September 22/23 (autumnal equinox) till December 24/25 (the observation was made). The difference between mean solar time and sidereal time at the night of observations is:
So on December 24/25 sidereal time 13ʰ30ᵐ corresponds to
Weihai is located in 2.05° East from the meridian of 120° (base meridian for Beijing time UT+08), so the mean solar time here ahead the Beijing time by . So to get answer according to time UT+08 we have to subtract these 8ᵐ, and we have
Answer: 07:15.
5.2.
FoV = 2048 × 13.5 μm × 206265″ / 8 m = 712.85″ = 11.88′, so measured from the Figure, the angular size in diameter is β ≈ 55 mm / 116 mm × FoV ≈ 5.6′.
5.3.
5.4.
Type = spiral.
