Source ownership and groups
The Bulgarian manuscript contains distinct α-1 and β-1 tasks, distinct α/β Planetarium versions, then shared αβ-3–5. Existing IDs p1–p5 are retained; the unrelated β-1 is now p6. The English original supplies the Jupiter photograph and complete reference tables absent from the Bulgarian manuscript. Bulgarian date 18 October 2009 is retained; English question and key say 19 October 2009.
Clipped official sketches
The five-page official key is a preliminary jury sketch. Its page tops are clipped on pages 2–5 in the actual PDF, also visible in fresh PyMuPDF rendering. Missing opening/continuation passages are explicitly marked, not reconstructed. The ray-diagram lower label is partly cut off.
Missing drawings and grading
No detailed grading sheet occurs in the year inventory. The introduction refers to correct student solutions worth 8 points. The requested Mars Bear drawing and promised Jupiter-moon sector/point drawings are absent from the supplied key.
Printed discrepancies
Retained: latitude intermediate −88°28′ versus final −88°23′; solar mass 1.989 × 10⁻³⁰ kg versus reference table 1989000 × 10²⁴ kg; Planetarium inequality R ≪ F; Mars sketch says sunset and discusses eccentricity although the question allows a circular orbit. Jupiter sketch uses “difference in declinations”, reports 1.5% accuracy and gives centre-distance rather than the requested surface distance. These are source statements, not newly calculated answers.
- 37.6 hours.
Решение
Внимание: Непълно решение
The supplied numerical sketch gives 37.6 hours but does not include the drawing of the Bear requested in the question.
Theoretical round. Sketches for solutions. For preliminary work of Jury ONLY.
Note for jury and team leaders. The proposed sketches are not full; the team leaders have to give more detailed explanations for students. But the correct solutions in the students’ papers (enough for 8 pts) may be shorter.
Sunrise duration
For an observer on the North Pole of Mars the sunrise happens once a year, in time close to the day of the martian vernal equinox. The solution of the problem is analogous to the solution about the sunrise on the Earth's poles, but we have to remember that some parameters are different on Mars and on Earth:
- — the visible angular size of Sun.
- — the speed of the Sun along the planet's ecliptic.
- — the inclination of the planet's equator plane to the plane of the planet's ecliptic.
- — radius of the planet.
For the observer on the North Pole of Mars the angle between the ecliptic and the horizon is equal to . During the sunrise the Sun goes up to the angle equal to its apparent angular diameter, that is
where is the diameter of the Sun, is the distance from Mars to the Sun. During this time the Sun moves an angular distance on the ecliptic. Thus, the duration of the sunset equals to , where is the speed of the Sun along the martial ecliptic.
Due to the large eccentricity of orbit of Mars both the distance and speed may vary significantly ( of mean value). Nevertheless we do not know a priory, and cannot understand from the tables, in which point of orbit Mars is situated at the moments of its vernal equinox. So we shall use mean values, equal to million km and per day. Thus,
Source note: “sunset” and the discussion of eccentricity are printed in this sunrise sketch; the question explicitly permits a circular orbit. The requested drawing of the Bear on Mars is not supplied in the available sketch.
